freight train
01:35
|
|||
freight train, freight train, run so fast
freight train, freight train, run so fast
please don't tell what train i'm on
they won't know what route i'm going
when i'm dead and in my grave
no more good times here i crave
place the stones at my head and feet
and tell them all i've gone to sleep
when i die, oh bury me deep
down at the end of old chestnut street
so i can hear old number nine
as she comes rolling by
when i die, oh bury me deep
down at the end of old chestnut street
place the stones at my head and feet
and tell them all i've gone to sleep
freight train, freight train, run so fast
freight train, freight train, run so fast
please don't tell what train i'm on
they won't know what route i'm going

watershed
02:53
|
|||
down by the edge of the watershed
there’s a place for you to rest your head
down where the waves crash
there’s feelings to feel and time to pass
i’ll hold you in the sunset
behind my troubled eyes
behold you along with the beauty
of the ever changing november skies
down in my heart there’s a quiet place
with misty trees and a small cafe
down in the sand i can see you there
tracing me while breathing the mountain air
i’ll hold you in the sunrise
of the next watershed
there’s so much beauty behind your tired eyes
memorizing mine as we laze about in our bed
up in the sky there is a new light
who knew something so far away could make me feel so right?

spool
03:39
|
|||
stalk goes to flower goes to seed
the sun spools around, how
many weeks
has it been?
pour yourself back into body
skull into skin
the trees shake their skirts free their leaves
baring their trunks and their mossy green sleeves
and the sky
presses down
the tea that I made has gone cold
some things dry up
others grow mold
and time
trickles in
pour yourself back into body

man on the road
05:24
|
|||
spent my whole life on the road
each step was my own
a man without a home
when clouds brought the rains
they must be
my mothers tears
i hadn’t seen her in years
my father found his way to me as the
dust caked on my skin
like his ashes beggin me to begin
my heart will stay
steady and plain
just a man on the road
if ya see me say hello
long time ago was a girl
the stars and the moon saw her twirl
never enough time in the world
passed through my hand like the stream
every mile saw the same thing
now the moon has her dance in my dreams
well time found it’s way to me too
just when the world stopped seeming new
my heart was left callin for you
but my heart will stay
steady and plain
just a man on the road
tryin to let go
my heart will stay
steady and plain
just a man on the road
coming up broke
spent my whole life on the road
each step was my own
oh the life i could’ve known

I gave my love a cherry
01:41
|
|||
i gave my love a cherry
that had no stone
i gave my love a chicken
that had no bone
i gave my love a story
that had no end
i gave my love a baby
with no cryin
how can there be a cherry
that has no stone?
how can there be a chicken
that has no bone?
how can there be a story
that has no end?
how can there be a baby
with no cryin?
a cherry when it's blooming
it has no stone
a chicken when it's pippin
it has no bone
the story of "i love you"
it has no end
a baby when it's sleeping
has no crying

the blackest crow
05:40
|
|||
as time draws near, my dearest dear
when you and i must part
how little you know of the grief and woe
in my poor aching heart
each night i suffer for your sake
believe me dear, that's true
i wish that you were staying here
or i was going with you
i wish my breast were made of glass
wherein you might behold
upon my heart, your name lies wrote
in letters made of gold
in letters made of gold, my love
believe me when i say
you are the one that i adore
until my dying day
the blackest crow that ever flew
would surely turn to white
if ever i prove false to you
bright day would turn to night
bright day will turn to night, my love
the elements would mourn
if ever i prove false to you
the seas would rage and burn
and when you're on some distant shore
think of your absent friend
and when the wind blows high and clear
a line to me, pray send
and when the wind blows high and clear
pray send a note to me,
that i might know by your handwrite
how time has gone with thee.
